Introduction: Why This Matters
Zechariah 1 begins with a call to return to God. After years of exile, God speaks through Zechariah to remind His people that He hasn’t forgotten them—and He wants their hearts back. The message is full of hope, mercy, and the promise of restoration.
1. Bible Reading: Zechariah 1:1–6
“‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you’… Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: This is what the Lord says—Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.’”
Explanation For Teenagers
God isn’t interested in empty religion—He wants a relationship with His people.
This passage reminds us that turning back to God is always possible—and He welcomes us with open arms.
The past doesn’t have to define us. God calls us to start fresh.

2. Bible Reading: Zechariah 1:12–17
“Then the angel of the Lord said, ‘Lord Almighty, how long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem?’… So the Lord spoke kind and comforting words to the angel… ‘I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there my house will be rebuilt.’”
Explanation For Teenagers
God’s message is clear—He sees their pain, and He’s bringing restoration.
Even when we’ve messed up, God responds with kindness and comfort when we turn to Him.
Mercy is at the heart of who God is—and that’s good news for us.

Youth Group Activity: “Return and Restore”
What You’ll Need:
- Two jars (labeled “Return” and “Restore”), paper slips, pens
How to Do It:
- Write something you want to return to God—an area you’ve struggled in.
- Then write something you want God to restore in your life (hope, peace, focus, etc.).
- Place them in the jars and pray over both as a group.
Debrief
- How did it feel to name what you want to give back to God?
- Why is it important to trust God to restore what’s broken?

Lord, thank You that You remember us, even when we wander. Help us to return to You with all our hearts. Restore our faith, our joy, and our purpose. Speak Your kind and comforting words to us again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
