Introduction: Why This Matters
In Luke 5, we see Jesus calling His first disciples and performing miracles. This chapter marks the beginning of His public ministry, and it’s full of life-changing moments. Teenagers can learn a lot from how Jesus invites ordinary people to follow Him and do extraordinary things. This story reminds us that we don’t need to have it all together to start following Jesus.
1. Bible Reading: Luke 5:1–11
“Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.’ So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”
Explanation For Teenagers
Jesus chose fishermen—not scholars or religious leaders—as His first disciples.
He met them where they were and gave them a bigger purpose.
Following Jesus often means leaving comfort for calling.
Youth Group Discussion Questions
- Why do you think Jesus chose fishermen?
- What might it look like for you to “leave everything” and follow Jesus?
- What is one way you can be a fisher of people this week?
2. Bible Reading: Luke 5:12–16
“Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be clean!'”
Explanation For Teenagers
Jesus wasn’t afraid to touch the untouchable.
He moved toward the outcast, not away from them.
Teenagers can learn that true compassion crosses barriers and brings healing.
