Introduction: Why This Matters
In Matthew 9, we see Jesus call Matthew, a tax collector, to follow Him. Instead of ignoring Matthew’s past, Jesus sees his future. This chapter reminds us that Jesus calls unlikely people and invites them to a life of purpose, love, and mission.
1. Bible Reading: Matthew 9:9–13
“As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him… ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick… I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.'”
Explanation For Teenagers
Matthew was seen as a traitor, but Jesus saw value and purpose in him.
Following Jesus isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being willing.
Jesus invites everyone—especially the ones who feel left out or unworthy.
