So let’s explore how we can stay plugged into the source of all life and grow our faith deeper.

Bible Reading and Explanation

John 15:1-2

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

Explanation For Teenagers

  • Jesus is the True Vine: Jesus is our source of life and spiritual nourishment.
  • God as the Gardener: God cares for us and wants us to grow, so He removes things from our lives that don’t help us.
  • Pruning for Growth: Sometimes, we go through tough times because God is helping us grow and become more fruitful.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  • How can staying connected to Jesus help you deal with challenges?

John 15:3-4

“You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

Explanation For Teenagers

  • Cleansed by the Word: Jesus’ teachings guide us and cleanse our hearts.
  • Remain in Jesus: Staying connected to Jesus is essential for spiritual growth and bearing fruit.

  • What does it mean to you to “remain in Jesus” in your daily life?
  • How do you stay connected to Jesus throughout the week?

John 15:5

  • How does staying connected to Jesus impact your relationships with others?

John 15:6

“If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.”

Explanation For Teenagers

  • Consequences of Disconnection: Without Jesus, we wither and become spiritually dead.
  • Seriousness of Staying Connected: This shows the importance of maintaining our relationship with Jesus.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

Youth Group Game: “Fruit Basket Upset”

Objective:

To illustrate the idea of bearing fruit and staying connected to the vine (Jesus) in a fun and interactive way.

Instructions:

  1. Arrange chairs in a circle, one fewer than the number of participants.
  2. One person stands in the middle and says, “I am the vine, you are the branches.”
  3. The person in the middle then calls out a type of fruit (e.g., apple, banana, grape).
  4. Everyone who chose that fruit must stand up and switch seats.
  5. The person in the middle tries to sit in one of the vacated chairs.
  6. Whoever is left standing without a chair is the new person in the middle.
  7. Repeat the process, mixing in the phrase “Fruit Basket Upset!” where everyone has to change seats.

Closing Prayer

Let’s close in prayer:

“Dear Jesus, thank You for being the true vine and giving us life. Help us stay connected to You every day, so we can grow and bear good fruit in our lives. Guide us through the challenges we face and help us to be a light to those around us. We pray that our lives glorify You in everything we do. In Your name, we pray. Amen.”

By staying connected to Jesus, the true vine, we can navigate our teenage years with strength and purpose. Remember, you are not alone—Jesus is with you, guiding and nourishing you every step of the way.
