Introduction: Why This Matters
It’s easy to forget to say “thank you”—especially when life gets busy or we finally get something we’ve been hoping for. In today’s story, Jesus heals ten people, but only one comes back to thank Him.
This lesson challenges us to think about gratitude, not just for big blessings, but in our everyday lives too.
1. Bible Reading: Luke 17:11–14
“Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, ‘Jesus, Master, have pity on us!’ When he saw them, he said, ‘Go, show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were cleansed.”
Explanation For Teenagers
Leprosy was a disease that made people total outcasts—no one would come near them.
The ten men cried out for help, and Jesus didn’t hesitate—He told them to act in faith by going to the priests. And as they obeyed, they were healed.
This shows that Jesus responds to faith and obedience, even in broken places.

2. Bible Reading: Luke 17:15–19
“One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, ‘Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?’ Then he said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has made you well.'”
Explanation For Teenagers
All ten were healed, but only one returned to thank Jesus—and he was the least expected: a Samaritan.
Jesus notices who comes back. Gratitude isn’t just polite—it’s powerful and personal.
Being thankful is part of living a life of faith.
