Sunday School Lesson: The Sun Stands Still – Trusting God for Big Miracles Joshua 10:12-14

Print Friendly and PDF

Introduction: Why This Matters

Have you ever felt like you were running out of time to finish something important? Maybe you’ve been in a situation where you wished you had more time to complete a task. Joshua and the Israelites found themselves in a battle where daylight was running out, and they needed a miracle.

Today’s lesson shows us how Joshua prayed for the impossible—for the sun to stand still—and God answered. This story teaches us that God is powerful and can work miracles in our lives when we trust Him.

1. Bible Reading: Joshua 10:12-14

“On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!”

Explanation For Teenagers

Joshua was in the middle of an intense battle, and he needed more time to win.

Instead of giving up, he prayed boldly and asked God for a miracle—to make the sun stand still!

God answered Joshua’s prayer, showing that nothing is impossible when we trust Him.

2. Bible Reading: Mark 11:22-24

“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Explanation For Teenagers

Jesus teaches us that faith and prayer go hand in hand—when we believe, God moves.

Joshua had faith in God’s power, and that faith led to a miracle.

We can trust that God hears our prayers and will act according to His perfect plan.
