Sunday School Lesson for Teens: Living a Life of Integrity in a Compromised World Proverbs 10:9

Print Friendly and PDF

We live in a world where the lines between right and wrong can seem blurry. As teenagers, you’re constantly faced with choices that test your character and integrity, whether it’s at school, on social media, or with friends. Living with integrity means being true to who God has called you to be, even when no one is watching. In this lesson, we’ll explore what it means to have integrity, why it matters, and how to stand strong when the pressure to compromise is overwhelming.

Bible Reading 1: Proverbs 10:9 (NIV)

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”

Explanation for Teenagers:

  • Integrity is about being consistent in your actions, words, and beliefs. It’s the opposite of living a double life.
  • This verse shows that living with integrity provides a sense of security—knowing you’re doing the right thing gives you peace.
  • On the flip side, when we choose dishonest or unethical paths, it eventually catches up with us.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. What does it mean to “walk in integrity” in your everyday life?
  2. Can you think of a time when you felt tempted to take a “crooked path”? How did you respond?
  3. Why do you think walking with integrity leads to feeling secure?

Bible Reading 2: Daniel 6:4-5 (NIV)

“At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.”

Explanation for Teenagers:

  • Daniel is a great example of integrity. Even when people tried to bring him down, they couldn’t find anything against him because he lived above reproach.
  • His honesty and faithfulness in his work set him apart. He didn’t compromise, even when it could have been easier.
  • Living with integrity may not always be the popular choice, but it’s the one that honors God and reflects His character.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. How do you think Daniel’s integrity helped him stand out in a culture that was against his faith?
  2. Have you ever been in a situation where doing the right thing made you stand out or feel isolated?
  3. Why is it important to stay true to your values, even when others might not?

Bible Reading 3: Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Explanation for Teenagers:

  • Integrity is about giving your best in everything you do, not just when people are watching, but because you’re ultimately serving God.
  • This verse reminds us that every action, no matter how small, should be done with excellence and sincerity as if God Himself were your boss.
  • Even in mundane or difficult tasks, your integrity in doing them with the right attitude reflects your faith.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. How does knowing that you’re working “for the Lord” change your perspective on school, chores, or responsibilities?
  2. Can you think of a time when you were tempted to take shortcuts or slack off because no one was watching? What did you do?
  3. How can you apply this mindset of integrity in everyday life?

Youth Group Game: “True or False Challenge”

  • Objective: To help students practice integrity by encouraging honesty in a fun, interactive way.
  • How to Play: Students take turns making two statements about themselves—one true and one false. The group has to guess which statement is true. After a few rounds, discuss how it feels when you have to hide the truth and how it impacts your character.
  • Debrief: Relate the game to real-life situations where hiding the truth might seem harmless, but over time it erodes trust and integrity.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help us to live lives of integrity, even when no one is looking. Give us the strength to stand up for what’s right and stay true to the person You’ve called us to be. May our actions, words, and choices reflect Your character, and may we inspire others to do the same. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
