Introduction: Why This Matters

Have you ever felt overlooked, underestimated, or like you didn’t quite fit in? Sometimes we think we have to be the loudest, strongest, or most popular to make a difference. But the Bible is full of stories about people who didn’t seem special—until God used them in powerful ways.

Today, we’ll learn about Ehud, a left-handed man God used to deliver Israel. It’s a weird, wild story—but also one that reminds us God can use anyone, even the most unlikely person, to make a big impact.

1. Bible Reading: Judges 3:12-15

“Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel. Getting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join him, Eglon came and attacked Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms. The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years. Again the Israelites cried out to the Lord, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite.”

Explanation For Teenagers

Israel was in trouble again, and this time they were ruled by a wicked king named Eglon for 18 years.

God chose Ehud to save His people—even though he wasn’t what people expected in a hero. Being left-handed was rare and seen as weak, but it was exactly what God used.

God doesn’t look at the outside—He uses what others might ignore to do incredible things.

Youth Group Discussion Questions

  • Why do you think God chose someone like Ehud instead of a “typical” leader?
  • Have you ever felt like you didn’t fit the mold of what people expect?
  • How does this story encourage you about how God might use you?

2. Bible Reading: Judges 3:16-23 (summary encouraged)

Ehud made a double-edged sword and hid it under his clothes. When he brought tribute to King Eglon, he tricked the guards into leaving. Ehud then used his left hand to pull the sword and defeat the king. Afterward, he escaped and led Israel to victory.

Explanation For Teenagers

Ehud used what made him different—his left hand—to carry out a mission only he could do.

The story is intense, but the lesson is clear: God equips us with unique gifts for a purpose.

Your differences aren’t flaws—they could be exactly what God wants to use to bring freedom and change.

Youth Group Discussion Questions

  • How did Ehud’s difference become his strength?
  • What’s something that makes you unique—and how could God use it?
  • How can we support each other in using our different strengths for God’s purpose?

Closing Prayer

God, thank You for using people like Ehud to show us that we don’t have to be perfect or popular to make a difference. Help us see that our differences are part of Your design. Give us the courage to say yes when You call us, and the confidence to believe You can use us just as we are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
