Introduction: Why This Topic Matters
Have you ever felt like there’s something big you’re supposed to do but aren’t sure what? As teens, you’re in a stage of life where people often ask you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” But a better question might be, “Who did God create you to be, and how can you live that out now?” This lesson will focus on how each of us has a purpose in God’s grand story and how embracing that can give us true direction and meaning. Let’s look at what the Bible says about building God’s Kingdom, right where we are.

1. Bible Reading & Teaching
Bible Reading 1: Jeremiah 29:11-13
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’”
Explanation for Teenagers
- God has a unique plan for each of us. His plan isn’t random—it’s full of purpose and hope.
- God invites us into His story, which is bigger than our individual lives. When we call on Him, He listens, and we start to understand His purpose.
- God’s promise to guide us gives us confidence, even when we don’t know every detail of the future.
Youth Group Discussion Questions
- How does knowing God has a plan for you make you feel?
- Do you think it’s hard to seek God “with all your heart”? Why or why not?
- Can you think of a time when you felt like God was guiding you? What did that look like?
Bible Reading 2: Esther 4:14
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Explanation for Teenagers
- Esther was in a unique position to make a difference. Her calling wasn’t an accident—God placed her where she needed to be.
- Like Esther, each of us has a part to play in God’s story. Sometimes, it’s something only we can do.
- God places each of us in specific situations and gives us influence for His purposes. He equips us, even when the task seems daunting.
Youth Group Discussion Questions
- What does “for such a time as this” mean to you personally?
- Have you ever felt like you were in a position to make a difference? What was it?
- If you could make a positive impact on your school, family, or community, what would it look like?
Bible Reading 3: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 18-20
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. … But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.”
Explanation for Teenagers
- Every person has unique gifts and purposes within the Body of Christ. No one’s role is “less than” another.
- Each of us has strengths that are needed to make a difference in the lives of others and to spread the message of God’s Kingdom.
- When we work together, we see how our differences make us stronger as a group.
Youth Group Discussion Questions
- Have you thought about what your unique “gifts” are? How can they help others?
- Why is it important that we work together as a “body” and not just on our own?
- Can you think of someone who has helped you see your unique purpose? How did they encourage you?
2. Youth Group Game: “Puzzle Builders”
- Objective: Help students experience how individual strengths combine to create a bigger picture.
- Setup: Prepare a puzzle (around 100 pieces) with a piece removed for each participant or make a larger puzzle and divide it into pieces.
- Instructions:
- Divide the pieces randomly and have each student work on putting their section of the puzzle together.
- After 10 minutes, bring everyone together and fit each section into the larger puzzle.
- Once the puzzle is complete, ask each person to share how it felt to contribute to the “big picture.”
- Debrief Questions:
- What did the finished puzzle teach you about being part of God’s plan?
- How does this connect to the idea that we each have a unique role in God’s Kingdom?
- Can you think of one way you can use your gifts to help build God’s Kingdom this week?
3. Closing Prayer
“Lord, thank you for giving each of us a unique purpose in Your story. Help us to see ourselves as Kingdom builders, not just people wandering without purpose. Thank you for placing us where we are and equipping us with gifts that can bless others. Guide us to seek You and to discover how we can serve in the ways You’ve prepared for us. May we learn to work together and embrace our purpose with confidence. Amen.”
By teaching students that they each have a unique role in God’s plan, this lesson reminds them they are vital to the Kingdom and that their purpose is much bigger than what the world might tell them.
