As a teenager, it can feel like you’re constantly asking questions about your future: What am I going to do with my life? What’s my purpose? With all the pressures from school, sports, family, and friends, it’s easy to feel lost or unsure about who you are and what you’re meant to do. But here’s the good news—God has a purpose for your life! You don’t have to wander through life wondering if you matter. God has created you with unique gifts and a calling that fits into His bigger plan. Today, we’re going to dive into how to live with purpose, discover your calling, and walk confidently in God’s plan for your life.

Bible Reading 1: Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Explanation for Teenagers:

  • This verse is a promise from God that He has good plans for your life. Even when you don’t see the full picture, God knows where He’s leading you.
  • God’s plans are not meant to hurt you or lead you astray but to give you hope. He has a purpose for you that is filled with meaning.
  • The key is trusting God even when life doesn’t make sense. He’s already working behind the scenes, preparing you for what’s next.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. What are some of your dreams or goals for the future?
  2. Have you ever felt unsure about what God’s plan for your life is? How can you trust God even when you don’t know all the answers?
  3. How does knowing that God has a specific plan for you give you hope?

Bible Reading 2: Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

Explanation for Teenagers:

  • You are not an accident. God calls you His masterpiece—uniquely made with a purpose.
  • God created you to do good things that He planned for you before you were even born. There’s work only you can do, and your life has meaning because you’re part of God’s story.
  • When you live in Christ, you get to walk in those good plans, doing what God has called you to do, whether big or small.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. What does it mean to you that God calls you His “masterpiece”?
  2. How can you discover the good things God has planned for your life?
  3. What are some ways you can start living with purpose right now, even if you don’t have everything figured out?

Bible Reading 3: Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

Explanation for Teenagers:

  • It’s natural to make plans for your life—college, career, relationships—but ultimately, it’s God’s purpose that prevails.
  • Sometimes your plans might change, or things won’t go the way you expected, but God’s plan is always better than anything we could come up with.
  • This verse teaches us to trust that God’s purpose is bigger and better, even when we don’t understand why things happen the way they do.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. Have you ever had plans that didn’t work out? How did you feel?
  2. How can you start trusting God’s plan, even when it doesn’t match your own?
  3. Why do you think God’s purpose is always better than our own plans?

Youth Group Game: “Purpose Puzzle”

  • Objective: To show that every person has a unique piece in God’s bigger plan.
  • How to Play: Before the lesson, take a large puzzle and remove several pieces. Give each student one piece of the puzzle when they arrive. Throughout the lesson, have them think about how their piece represents their individual purpose. At the end, bring all the pieces together to complete the puzzle.
  • Debrief: Discuss how each piece was necessary to complete the puzzle, just like each person’s unique purpose is important to God’s plan. No one’s purpose is too small or insignificant.

Closing Prayer

Dear God, thank You for creating each of us with a unique purpose and plan. Help us to trust You with our future, even when we don’t have all the answers. Guide us as we walk in Your purpose, and help us discover the good works You’ve prepared for us. Give us the courage to live with confidence, knowing we are part of Your masterpiece. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
