Sunday School Lesson: The Year of Jubilee – Reset and Restoration Leviticus 25

Print Friendly and PDF

Introduction: Why This Matters

Leviticus 25 introduces the amazing concept of the Year of Jubilee—a time every 50 years when slaves were freed, debts were canceled, and land was returned. It was God’s way of hitting the reset button and showing His heart for justice, mercy, and second chances.

This lesson encourages teens to think about how God calls us to be people of forgiveness, freedom, and restoration in a broken world.

1. Bible Reading: Leviticus 25:8–12

“Count off seven sabbath years—seven times seven years… and have the trumpet sounded everywhere… Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you.”

Explanation For Teenagers

The Year of Jubilee was radical—it restored people, property, and dignity.

God showed that He values people more than possessions and wants His people to live in freedom.

This reminds us that God’s kingdom is about grace, restoration, and fresh starts.

Youth Group Discussion Questions

  • What do you think the Year of Jubilee would’ve felt like for someone in debt or slavery?
  • How does this show us God’s view of justice and mercy?
  • How can we help others experience “jubilee moments” in their lives today?

2. Bible Reading: Leviticus 25:35–38

“If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them… so they can continue to live among you. Do not take interest or any profit from them… I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt.”

Explanation For Teenagers

God called His people to care for one another and to remember their own rescue story.

Instead of taking advantage of others, they were called to help restore dignity and security.

We’re called to do the same—be a people of compassion and support.

Youth Group Discussion Questions

  • Why is it important to remember what God has done for us?
  • What does it look like to help someone without expecting anything in return?
  • How can your group show Jubilee-style kindness at school or in your community?

Youth Group Game: “Reset Race”

What You’ll Need:

  • Cards with challenges and “reset” buttons (use buzzers or signs)

How to Play:

  1. Students compete in simple challenges (like stacking cups or doing math problems).
  2. If they make a mistake, they can hit the reset button and start fresh.
  3. Debrief how this game relates to God’s gift of new beginnings.

Debrief

  • How did it feel to be able to start over?
  • What does that teach us about God’s heart in Leviticus 25?
  • Where do you need a reset in your own life?

Closing Prayer

God, thank You for being a God of restoration. Thank You for second chances and new beginnings. Help us live with open hands and hearts—willing to forgive, release, and restore others like You’ve done for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
