Sunday School Lesson: The Healing of the Bleeding Woman – Faith That Reaches Out Luke 8:43–48

Print Friendly and PDF

Introduction: Why This Matters

Have you ever felt invisible or like your problems weren’t important to anyone? The woman in this story had been suffering for twelve years—and no one could help her. But she had faith that just touching Jesus’ cloak would be enough. And it was.

This story reminds us that Jesus sees us, heals us, and honors even the smallest acts of faith.

1. Bible Reading: Luke 8:43–44

“And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.”

Explanation For Teenagers

This woman was desperate. Doctors had failed her, and society had rejected her because of her condition.

Still, she believed that Jesus had the power to heal—even if she only touched His clothes.

Faith doesn’t always look loud or public. Sometimes it’s quiet, determined, and brave.

Youth Group Discussion Questions

  • Why do you think the woman believed just touching Jesus’ cloak would heal her?
  • Have you ever needed healing—physically, emotionally, or spiritually?
  • What does this teach us about the power of even small steps of faith?

2. Bible Reading: Luke 8:45–48

“‘Who touched me?’ Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, ‘Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.’ But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.’ Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet… Then he said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'”

Explanation For Teenagers

Jesus wasn’t angry—He wanted to acknowledge her and show that her faith mattered.

He called her “daughter,” a term of love and acceptance, restoring not just her body but her identity.

When we reach out in faith, Jesus not only answers—He makes us whole.

Youth Group Discussion Questions

  • Why did Jesus stop and ask who touched Him?
  • What does it mean that He called her “daughter”?
  • How can we reach out to Jesus in our own struggles?

Youth Group Game: “Faith Tag”

What You’ll Need:

  • A small cloth or ribbon (to represent Jesus’ cloak)
  • Open space to play

How to Play:

  1. One person wears the cloth and tries to avoid being “touched.”
  2. The others must try to tag the cloth—not the person—with light contact.
  3. Each successful tag equals a step of faith. Debrief how persistence matters in faith too.

Debrief

  • What was it like trying to reach the cloth in the game?
  • How does this reflect our own spiritual journey?
  • What’s one way you can “reach out” to Jesus this week?

Closing Prayer

Jesus, thank You for seeing us when no one else does. Help us to reach out in faith, even when it’s hard or quiet. Remind us that You honor those who trust in You. Heal what’s broken in us and help us walk in peace. In Your name, Amen.
