Print Friendly and PDF

As teenagers navigating through life, it’s common to have moments of doubt and uncertainty. Questions about identity, purpose, and beliefs often arise. In these times, having assurance in our faith becomes crucial. Assurance gives us confidence and peace amidst life’s challenges. It helps us stand firm in our beliefs and walk confidently in our relationship with Christ.

Today, we delve into 1 John 5:9-13 to understand what assurance in Christ means for us as teenagers and how it can impact our faith journey.

Bible Reading: 1 John 5:9-13

“If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” (ESV)

Explanation For Teenagers

  • God’s Testimony:
  • God’s testimony is greater than any human testimony. It’s the assurance that comes from God Himself regarding His Son, Jesus Christ.
  • Eternal Life in Christ:
  • Through believing in Jesus, we receive the gift of eternal life. This life isn’t just a future promise but a present reality in our relationship with Him.
  • Knowing and Believing:
  • Assurance comes from knowing and believing in Jesus Christ. It’s not based on our feelings or circumstances but on the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

  • Blindfold one person in each pair.
  • The sighted partner guides the blindfolded partner through an obstacle course using only verbal instructions.
  • After completing the course, discuss how trust and assurance played a role in the activity, relating it to our trust in Christ.

Closing Prayer:

Dear God,

Thank you for the assurance we find in Jesus Christ. Help us to anchor our faith in Your unchanging truth and to live confidently in the assurance of eternal life. Strengthen us in moments of doubt and uncertainty, reminding us of Your faithful promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
