Today, we’re diving into the last chapter of the Bible, Revelation 22. Now, you might be thinking, “Revelation? Isn’t that all about scary beasts and the end of the world?” Well, yes and no. While Revelation does contain some intense imagery, it’s also packed with hope, promise, and a glimpse into the incredible future that awaits those who follow Jesus. So, let’s unpack Revelation 22 together and discover why it’s important for us as teenagers to grow our faith.

Bible Reading: Revelation 22:12-14

“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.”

Explanation For Teenagers:

  • Jesus is speaking here, reminding us that He will return.
  • Those who have faith in Jesus and follow Him will be blessed and have access to eternal life.
  • There is a clear distinction between those who belong to Jesus and those who don’t.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. How does the promise of Jesus’ return affect the way we live our lives now?
  2. What do you think it means to “wash our robes” in this context?
  3. Why do you think Jesus emphasizes the importance of righteousness in this passage?

Bible Reading: Revelation 22:16-17

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.”

Explanation For Teenagers:

  • Jesus identifies Himself as the root and descendant of David, as well as the bright morning star, signifying His authority and glory.
  • The invitation to come and drink freely of the water of life is extended to everyone.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. What do you think it means for Jesus to be the “bright morning star”?
  2. Why do you think the invitation to drink freely of the water of life is extended to everyone?
  3. How does this passage illustrate Jesus’ inclusivity and accessibility?

Bible Reading: Revelation 22:20-21

“He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”

Explanation For Teenagers:

  • Jesus reiterates His promise to return soon.
  • The writer, likely John, expresses his longing for Jesus’ return and ends with a prayer for grace.

Youth Group Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think John ends the book of Revelation with a prayer for grace?
  2. How does the phrase “Surely I am coming soon” impact our hope and anticipation as Christians?
  3. In what ways can we express our longing for Jesus’ return in our daily lives?

Youth Group Game: “Future Predictions”

Divide into small groups and give each group a piece of paper and some markers. Have them brainstorm predictions about what the world might be like when Jesus returns. Encourage creativity and imagination! After a few minutes, have each group share their predictions with the rest of the youth group.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the hope we find in Your Word, especially in the book of Revelation. Help us to live each day with the anticipation of Jesus’ return, knowing that You are faithful to fulfill Your promises. Fill us with Your grace and empower us to share Your love with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remember, as we journey through life as followers of Jesus, let’s keep our eyes fixed on Him and eagerly await His return. See you next time, awesome teens!
