Introduction: Why This Matters for Teens
The start of a new year comes with mixed emotions for teenagers—excitement, anxiety, regret, and hope. Some teens look back at the last year wishing they could erase mistakes. Others feel pressure to “be better” this year. The Bible offers better news than resolutions: God gives new mercies every single day. This lesson helps teens start the year grounded in grace, not guilt, and focused on God’s faithfulness instead of fear.
What I’ve Learned about New Year’s and New Mercies
We all have made New Year’s resolutions that we quit a week or maybe even a couple of days after making them. Thankfully, our God is not like this. He does not forsake nor quit on us. This can be seen in the fact that His mercies refresh us not yearly or monthly but daily. God’s grace is infinite, no matter what we do or what we have done, God is merciful. Instead of relying on ourselves to make New Year’s resolutions, we should sit in God’s grace daily and ask Him to help us do His will. – Micah K
