As teenagers, we are all facing different challenges in our lives. It can be hard to trust God when things get tough, but Psalm 93 reminds us that God is always in control. In this Psalm, the writer describes how powerful and majestic God is, and how His throne stands firm forever. This is an important topic for teenagers to grow their faith because it reminds us that no matter what we face, God is with us and we can trust Him.

Bible Reading: Psalm 93:1-2

“The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;

the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength;

indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.

Your throne was established long ago;

you are from all eternity.”

Explanation

  • The psalmist starts by saying that the Lord reigns and is robed in majesty and strength.
  • The world is established and secure because of the Lord’s power and strength.
  • The psalmist then describes God’s throne as being established long ago and Him being from all eternity. This means that God has always been in control and always will be.

Bible Reading: Psalm 93:3-4

“The seas have lifted up, Lord,

the seas have lifted up their voice;

the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.

Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,

mightier than the breakers of the sea—

the Lord on high is mighty.”

Explanation

  • The psalmist describes the seas as lifting up their voice and pounding waves. This shows the power of the seas, which can be scary and overwhelming.
  • However, the Lord is mightier than even the thunder of the great waters and the breakers of the sea. This shows that God’s power is greater than anything we face.

  • What are some things in your life that feel like pounding waves?
  • How does knowing that God is mightier than those things help you trust Him?

Youth Group Game: “Stormy Seas”

Materials: Two large inflatable beach balls

Instructions:

1. Divide the group into two teams.

2. Each team stands on opposite sides of the room or playing area.

3. One team has a beach ball and must try to get it to the other team’s side without it touching the ground.

4. The other team tries to stop the ball from crossing their side by hitting it back to the other side with their beach ball.

5. Whoever scores a point first wins.

This game represents the power of the seas and how sometimes we feel overwhelmed by life. It also reminds us of Psalm 93 and how God’s power is greater than the stormy seas we face.

Closing Prayer

Dear God, thank you for reminding us in Psalm 93 that you are always in control. Even when things seem overwhelming, we can trust that you are mighty and your throne stands firm forever. Help us to remember this truth and to trust you in all things. Amen.
